A Personalized Education Portal 26 Months Later

Abstract

In September 1997, LSU's Office of Computing Services rolled out a portal application, Personal Access Web Services (PAWS), for the LSU community. Today more than 45,000 students, faculty, and staff have requested and obtained PAWS accounts. PAWS enables users to interact with the university in a completely personalized way. The increased convenience of PAWS has resulted in a tremendous increase in the number of student interactions with the university; staff and faculty have also benefited from the new applications that would have not been possible without PAWS. This presentation will detail the PAWS application and its development process.
